Plans for ladies beginners this year

Quite a few of you have been in touch asking when the ladies beginners rides are re-starting so here are our plans for the year.

*MONTHLY BEGINNER SKILL SESSIONS*
As you may know we already run monthly ladies beginners skill sessions on the first Sunday of the month at the Cobalt. These have been really well-attended and will continue through the year. They are free to attend, open to non-members and are a great introduction and confidence boost to new riders or those who haven’t been on a bike for a while. They’re also really good for regular riders who want to improve other skills such as having a bash at track-stands and no-hand riding! Look out for dates in Events.

For the beginners rides we’ve been having a think about who we pitch these to, and the intention of them being a pathway into our weekly club rides.

*TUESDAY BEGINNERS NIGHT*
Our Tuesday club beginners nights are our starting point for women who want to get into regular cycling in a group. We have a significant number of women coming along to these nights now. The ride is paced at around 12mph average doing 15 miles in a small group along the coast. We meet at Tynemouth Priory at 6.40pm, come along a little earlier if its your first night and ask for myself or Murray Mccheyne to get a welcome or email [email protected]

*NEW MONTHLY SUNDAY SOCIAL RIDE*
The club runs mixed members Sunday social rides and would love to get more women along to these, however we recognise that these 40-50 mile rides can seem a bit daunting and a big leap. So we’re going to introduce once a month ladies beginner Sunday social rides, of around 30 miles, pace of 12mph average, no-drop and open to non-members. These will be on the quiet roads of Northumberland, starting in Ponteland with our regular club run but splitting into our ladies-only group. Its beautiful rides in scenic countryside, with a compulsory cake stop and friendly company – what’s not to love?!  First event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1720038668275475/

For those women who want to start off with shorter rides, we’d like to signpost you to either Breeze Rides https://www.facebook.com/breezenortheast/?fref=ts which are 10-20 miles at 8-10mph, or our friends at Watbike http://www.watbus.org.uk/watbike/ who run similar length guided rides aimed at beginners and are very women-friendly.

As you’ll see there is something for everyone, and we’ll hope you’ll join us at one or more of the options above. If you have any questions please ask below, send me a DM or email [email protected]
