Round-Up for Q2 2023

Seahouses Classic

Over 50 riders making 6 groups took part in the annual Seahouses classic from Tynemouth and back. The 100 miler is a good ride for those wanting to do their first metric century, of which we had a few!

Awaiting us at the end were a bountiful array of pizzas – all in all a good day. Thanks to Matt Ellis for organising the ride.

Social Events

Socialising is a big part of club culture. This year we’ve stepped it up a notch from informal get-togethers after to rides to dedicated events, giving everyone the opportunity to take part.

We’ve added social rides to our calendar, every two weeks on a Thursday. The social rides are just that – socially paced bimbles to a designated point for a drink and maybe some food. There are road and gravel options. So far we’ve hit TwoByTwo in Byker, The Tyne Bar in Ouseburn and The Secret Garden in Seaton Deleval. All rides have been pretty awesome.

I’ve been off my bike for a long time and knew I’d be slow. The other attendees were great riders but didn’t leave my side, rush off of try to go faster than the slowest rider’s pace. We had chats, caught up with each others news and generally had a great time. So if you want to get back on it, or you’re already a TDF wannabe, I highly recommend attending a social ride. Just look at my face in the photo šŸ¤£

Sarah Brett – social ride beer drinker

We also recently hosted our first social evening in Whitley Bay – no bikes or cycling kit involved! This was a nice opporuntity to chat to other members without the worry of finding somewhere to stash bikes or having to think about getting back home.

Three by Two Fords Challenge

We had a great turnout for the Three by Two fords challenge with over 12 riders taking it on. The route covered the typical three fords, whilst hitting two of them on the way back – making it that bit harder. What worked well was giving people the option to join late or depart early to suit their schedules.

Excellent day out. Great group, fantastic weather and super (challenging) route.

Tim Donnelly

This one’s a keeper.

London to Newcastle

For the first time in years, NTR took on the London to Newcastle challenge ride. Over 300 miles in 20 hours riding was achieved by the dream team:

Just a day for superlatives: the best crew on an amazing ride. Thank you to Dan, Lee and Tom: Iā€™m so grateful to have been able to ride this with you guys. Derek B for his faultless support on the day and beyond, Keith for agreeing to ride with us on the hardest bit and Simon and Jenny for their amazing, surprise catering at Northallerton. Also everyone else that has contributed, advised, counselled and inspired over the last few months. šŸ„°šŸ„°šŸ„°

Ian Wright – Ride Organiser

This ride truly captured the club spirit – highlighting the importance of teamwork and support we give each other when it’s most needed.
