Bank Holiday CX Day Out (Club members ride)
May 28 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Why: Make the most of the bank holiday weekend with a long but easy CX route mostly on good cycle paths or lanes.
Where: Meet at start of the Derwent Walk (next to the entrance of Blaydon Rugby club). I’m not sure about parking but could easily use the Metrocentre car parks, near Ikea. When: see event details
Description: Heading up the Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way.
Drop down to Stanhope then up and over to Alston on the road.
From Alston pick up the fantastic South Tyne Trail all the way to Haltwhistle (with a gate or twenty!) crossing the awesome Lambley Viaduct.
Pub stops then train back to Newcastle from Haltwhistle or continue riding…
After a little climb to Vindolanda go down Stanegate on road then into Hexham via the track by the railway.
On road to Corbridge then Ovingham where we cross the river and stick to the dark (south) side, on the Keelman’s Way, back to the start.
Just short of 100 miles but ride to/from the start for bigger numbers.
Refuelling: Options for stops include Park Head Cafe, Alston, Wallace pub nr Haltwhistle, Haltwhistle, Hexham, Corbridge, Wylam, Newburn(!) & Tyne Bar (+the Exchange).
The bike: Ideally suited to CX or decent hybrid, MTB be fine but not required. Not for road bikes.
1. This is a social group ride. Those intending to blast off the front will be expected to regroup at certain points along the route.
2. Trains to Newcastle run from Haltwhistle, Bardon Mill, Haydon Bridge, Hexham, Corbridge, Prudhoe and Wylam.
3. No one will be left behind but anyone struggling may be reminded of point 2 above.
